Honda has revealed the new 2022 Honda Civic in prototype form, ahead of the official debut in 2021. The new Civic was unveiled on video game streaming site Twitch to establish a connect with a younger audience, which it believes is the target customer for the Civic. This 11th generation Honda Civic has completely transformed inside and out.

    Exterior

The new Civic adapts Honda’s latest design language we have previewed on the Amaze and the new City. Honda has stuck with the wide and low stance the world has come to associate with the Civic, but instead

of the aggressive, sharp fascia and body creases, the new model gets cleaner surfacing and a more grown-up appearance.

The new model gets deep-set LED headlights with angular LED daytime running lights flanking the slim grille. The front bumper is dominated by a large radiator grille, flanked by C-shaped black accents for the air intakes.

On the sides, there’s a strong shoulder line that runs from the front fender all the way to the tail-lights, and the window line features a kink on the D-pillar similar to the latest generation Accord sold overseas. This prototype gets 19-inch black alloys with 235-section Pirelli Pilot Super Sport tyres as well.

Similar to the front, the rear too is much simpler. The new car recieves a subtle boot lip spoiler, wraparound LED tail-lights and gloss black surrounds for the exhaust tips.

The new Honda Civic is expected to remain similar in size to the current-gen Civic but have a slightly longer wheelbase. The new Civic is based on an upgraded version of the current Civic’s platform, which is now more rigid to improve driving dynamics, as well as to enhance occupant and pedestrian collision protection.

    Interior

The new Civic adopts a cleaner, simpler and mature design language on the inside too, and carries forward some elements from the new City. A freestanding 9.0-inch touchscreen takes the pride of place on the rather minimalistic dashboard. The new Civic will also come with a full-digital instrument cluster. Another highlight will be a honeycomb mesh finish that wraps across the width of the dash and subtly incorporates the AC vents. The centre console appears free of buttons, and only houses three dials for the climate control system.

The new Civic will also feature an electronic parking brake switch, just beside the transmission selector.

The new Civic will also get a host of active and passive safety features, new airbag designs and driver assistance systems, atleast for foreign markets. Though engine and transmission details have not been revealed yet, we are expecting more exciting options with the new Civic as compared to the current generation model.

    Launch and pricing

The new Honda Civic will first be showcased in its final production form by early 2021 in the USA, while a market launch is set to take place closer to the middle of 2021. However, going by the dull sales of the current generation model in India, the 11th generation model is not expected to arrive in India before the second half of 2022. When launched, the new Honda Civic will face competition from the new-generation Hyundai Elantra and the new Skoda Octavia.

Ford is expected to bring in a limited number of its extreme Ranger Raptor pick-up to India. The Ranger is essentially a pickup version of the Ford Endeavour SUV. However, the Raptor is a specifically engineered high performance version of the regular Ranger, providing extreme capability of high speed over rough terrain.

The Ford Ranger Raptor with its combination of off-road skills, load-carrying capacity and unique Baja race-truck-like ability to monster bad roads at speed, certainly an enthusiastic-only kind of vehicle. With such unique performance oriented vehicles, Ford is keen on showcasing it’s unique engineering prowess and identity.

The ladder frame chassis of the Ranger Raptor has been seriously strengthened to take the extra beating, the front suspension towers have been beefed up to take the extra load and at the rear, the load bearing leaf springs have been replaced by an Endeavour-like Watt’s linkage to provide greater directional stability. The Ranger Raptor also gets purpose-built 2.5 inch (diameter) off-road racing coil overs from race truck specialist, Fox. As a result, the Ranger gets 30 percent more wheel travel, and the ability to fly over rough roads at speed that would shake other SUVs to bits.

The Ranger Raptor boasts of 283mm ground clearance. It gets 800mm of water-wading depth, and the massive 285mm tyres offer huge traction. While the engine is similar to the one that powers the Endeavour, the Raptor gets twin turbos, boosting the power to 213hp and the torque to 500Nm. The transmission though will remain the same 10-speed automatic gearbox seen on the Endeavour. The four-wheel-drive system will have six modes, including grass, gravel, snow and rock climbing modes. The truck will also have a Baja mode, which reduces chassis interventions for maximum attack over rough terrain.

    Ford Ranger Raptor

The Ranger Raptor features chunky bodywork extensions to match the wider track, the famous black Raptor grill and massive bash plates. The Raptor, just like the Endeavour will come as standard with ESP, rollover mitigation, Hydraulic brake assist, Hill Launch Assist and Hill descent control.

The Ranger Raptor will be imported by Ford under the 2,500-unit homologation-free route. The Ranger Raptor is likely to be launched in the country by the second-half of 2021. However, this extreme pickup truck will be priced around or above Rs.70L. If you are a serious off road enthusiast and have a load of cash, then the Ranger Raptor is a good reason to get excited for you.

    Stay tuned for further updates.

    Exterior:

At first glance, the headlamps get minor design tweaks, with a slightly more angular treatment. The headlamp inserts too are new and the Headlamps themselves are expected to be full-LED units on most variants.

connecting both fog lamp units. The new bumper does not feature separate LED daytime running lamps, which means they will now be integrated into the headlight units.

The new Compass Trailhawk will also come with a unique front bumper design along with an all-black grille, dual-tone hood and the trademark red hooks upfront. The refreshed Compass Trailhawk also gets new-look 18” alloy wheels.

At the rear though, the changes are minimum with the mildly re-profiled tail-lamps and the new inserts.

    Interior:

The new Jeep Compass facelift is expected to recieve a much-larger 10.1-inch touchscreen U-Connect5 infotainment system with few connected car facilities as well. It is also likely that the top spec variants will receive a fully digital instrument cluster as well. While the rest of the dashboard will have no design changes, the material quality is expected to be improved significantly.

    Engines:

The new Jeep Compass will continue with the current set of engine and gearbox options. The 1.4L Multi Air Petrol engine will be mated to either a 6 speed manual or a 7 speed DCT whereas the 2.0L turbo diesel will be mated to either a 6 speed manual or a 9 speed torque converter automatic transmission.
