Hyundai is readying a brand new super-compact, micro SUV/crossover based on the Grand i10 Nios platform. Going by the latest spy images from abroad, this new micro SUV, codenamed the Hyundai AX1 is likely to feature quirky and unique styling with headlamps positioned lower on the front bumper and the LED DRLs with turn indicators mounted on top.

The overall profile is quite upright with a steeply raked windshield and a boxy silhouette. The rear door handles are likely to be positioned on the C-pillars and the new car is expected to feature 16” alloy wheels. The top-spec variants are expected to feature projector headlamps, touchscreen system, automatic climate control and smart key access with push-button start.

The new Hyundai AX1 could be powered either by the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine from the Santro or the 1.2L Kappa petrol from the Grand i10 Nios. The 1.0L turbocharged petrol unit from the Nios/Aura Turbo can also be expected. Transmission options could include a 5 speed Manual as standard with the 1.2L petrol receiving a CVT automatic too.

The Hyundai AX1 is being developed for India along with other South-East Asian markets. In India, the new micro SUV could compete with the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, the upcoming Tata HBX and the Mahindra KUV100.

MG Gloster SUV Launched at 28.98 Lakh , Feature loaded and cheaper than Toyota Fortuner !

Morris Garages India have have launched their new flagship full size Gloster SUV in India ranging from Rs.28.9L to Rs.35.3L. Bookings are now open for the feature loaded full size SUV, with the booking advance of Rs.1L. MG’s full-size SUV will be available with either a six- or seven-seat layout and will offer 4WD as an option. The MG Gloster is a rebadged version of China's Maxus D90 which is also sold as the LDV D90 in Australia.

Variants and features:

The Gloster is available in four trim levels – Super, Smart, Sharp and Savvy. The MG Gloster Savvy and Sharp variants

will be available with a 6-seat configuration; with captain seats in the middle row, while the MG Gloster Super & Smart will feature a 7 seat layout as standard. The MG Gloster Sharp can be optioned with either seating arrangement.

Powertrain:

The Gloster will be available with two 2.0-litre diesel engine options. The Super and Smart Variants will be available with a single turbocharger engine and develops 163hp and 375Nm, while the Sharp and Savvy Variants will get a twin turbo unit developing a superior 218hp and 480Nm. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is standard on both engines. The twin turbo engine will be available with Borg Warner's shift-on-the fly four-wheel drive with selectable drive modes including Snow, Sand, Mud, Rock, Auto, Eco and Sport modes. The single turbo diesel is two-wheel drive only.

The new MG Gloster is competing against other full-size, 7-seat ladder-frame SUVs including the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the Mahindra Alturas G4. Prices for the Single turbo diesel range start from Rs.28.98L for the Super Variant and goes upto Rs.30.98L for the Smart variant. The Twin Turbo range starts from Rs.33.68L for the Sharp 7 seater with the 6 seater costing Rs.33.98L and the top spec Savvy 6 seater priced at Rs.35.38L.

These prices simply make the Gloster the best value for money full size SUV compared to its rivals.

Tata Gravitas 7 Seat SUV - All You Need To Know

Tata Motors will be launching their flagship Gravitas 7-seat SUV later this year. The Gravitas is essentially the 7 seats extended version of the Harrier 5 seat SUV based on the Land Rover derived OMEGA arc platform.

Based on the Harrier, the Gravitas will be around 60mm longer than the Harrier to accommodate the extra 2 seats while also being taller to provide better headroom for the 3rd row. Except for the larger dimensions and extra seats, the Gravitas will be largely similar to the 5-seat Harrier.

The tailgate will be more upright, giving the Gravitas a more boxy appearance and the

SUV will also feature long functional roof rails for lifestyle utility. The top-spec variants will receive 18” dual-tone alloy wheels with the design similar to the Harrier's whereas the lower-spec variants will carry forward the exact same 17” alloy wheels seen on the Harrier’s lower variants. Though it is not sure whether the Gravitas will be provided with an electric sunroof.

The 2L Kryotec turbo diesel produces 170PS Power and 350NM torque. From the XM variant onwards, the Gravitas will be available with three drive modes; Eco, City and Sport.

Launch & price:

The new Gravitas is expected to be priced from ?15L to ?20L for the Manual variants and ?17.5L to ?21L for the Automatic variants. When launched later this year, Tata’s new flagship SUV will compete against the likes of the MG Hector plus and the next generation Mahindra XUV500. Stay tuned for further updates.
