Nisaan Magnite XE Base Variant - Better Alternative for Hatchbacks?

Nissan Magnite XE Entry Level Variant Priced at 4.99lakh!

The Nissan Magnite compact SUV was launched earlier this month starting from Rs.4.99L (ex-showroom) for the entry level XE Variant, making it the most affordable sub-4m SUV in the country. We may have read the brochure or virtually checked out the base Variant through Nissan’s website, however no one has seen the entry level variant in real life until now. We have managed to get exclusive access to the base level Nissan Magnite XE variant and here is a detailed walkaround video of the same.

The Magnite XE doesn’t look too bare-bones in reality. Even this base Variant gets the same large Octagonal grille with chrome surrounds, lending the Magnite a strong presence. However, the bumper skid plates are finished entirely in black unlike the silver skid plates on the higher Variants. The XE variant is available only with two paint schemes; white and silver. The variant features sharp-looking halogen headlamps up front, L-shaped chrome strips that take place of the LED DRLs seen on the top-end trims. Despite having the lesser powered engine, the Nissan Magnite XE comes with 16-inch Steel wheels as standard. While the ORVMs are finished in ebony black, surprisingly the door handles are body-coloured. As expected, the turn indicators are located on the front fenders on this variant. Adding to the surprises, even this base level Variant offers Silver-finished functional roof rails on the Magnite, which can withstand upto 50kg of luggage. Furthermore, this XE Variant gets rear windshield wiper, washer and demister too along with 4 reverse sensors.

Getting inside, the Magnite XE gets a dual-tone beige and black theme, along with black inside door handles, chrome surrounds for the AC vents. In terms of features, this base level variant gets only manually adjustable ORVMs with knobs on the inside; however front and rear power windows are a standard feature. The even more surprising feature, is the availability of 60 min operation for the Power windows even after removing the key. As expected, the XE Variant misses out on an audio system and Central locking. The Pizza-inspired instrument cluster with an LED 3.5-inch MID is similar to the one seen on the Renault Triber and the Kwid. Even on this base variant, the gear lever gets Chrome and piano Black accents with an art leather Boot featuring contrast white stitching. The seats, though similar to the top spec variant in comfort and design, have a more hard-wearing fabric upholstery on this base variant. More surprising features include soft fabric padding on all doors and Rear seat adjustable headrests.

Standard safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, engine immobilizer, pretensioner seatbelts, rear seat adjustable headrests and reverse sensors.

The boot capacity remains the same at 336L however, this base Variant doesn't get a parcel tray or boot lamp. The rear seats can be 100% flat folded to increase cargo space though. The 15” space-saver spare wheel is neatly placed under the boot floor along with the tools.

The Nissan Magnite XE is available only with the 1.0L naturally aspirated 3 cylinder petrol engine from the Renault Triber. This engine produces 72PS power and 96Nm of torque which will be adequate in terms of performance due to the car’s relatively low 939kg kerb weight. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.

For now, this XE variant is available for Rs.4.99L ex showroom; which translates to roughly around or above Rs.6L on road. This price is around the same range as the entry-level variants of B-segment hatchbacks such as the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Tata Tiago and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. When compared, the Nissan Magnite XE seems like an incredible value for money deal overall. However, this XE variant’s price will be increased to Rs.5.45 lakh ex-showroom on the 1st of January 2021, as confirmed by Nissan India.

The Nissan Magnite seems to revolutionize “Value for money” in the Indian Automotive industry by offering surprising number of features, more than expected space and comfort, all for compact-car money. We wish Nissan India and the Magnite all the very best.

Stay tuned for further detailed coverage and reviews.

    Exterior:

DRLs. Projector fog lamps are also expected to be offered. The new i20 will be longer and wider than the current model. The sides have sharp, dynamic creases lending the car a more dynamic profile. The window line features Chrome detailing which flows from the A pillar to the top of the C pillar whereas the snazzy Z-shaped LED Tail lamps are connected by a red reflector bar. The new i20 will also receive unique looking 16” alloy wheels on the top spec variants.

    Interior:

The new Hyundai i20's interior will feature a fresh and clean layout with a wraparound layered design. The interior is expected to sport a flowing cockpit theme while being loaded with features.

Here's an extensive list of features on the new i20:

    • 10.25” touchscreen system

    • Blue link connectivity

    • Fully digital instrument cluster

    • Automatic climate control

    • Air purifier system

    • Ambient lighting

    • Leather upholstery

    • Ventilated seats

    • Split folding rear seats

    • Electric sunroof

    • Auto LED headlamps

    • Cruise control

The new i20 will also offer more safety features:

    • Geofencing & tracking

    Powertrains:

The new i20 is expected to be available with two petrol engine options and one diesel engine. The standard 1.2L 4 cyl Kappa petrol engine will produce 83PS Power through either a 5 Speed manual transmission or a CVT. The 1.0L 3 cyl turbo petrol powertrain is expected to be carried over from the Aura Turbo producing a maximum output of 100PS through either a 6 speed manual gearbox, or the new IMT or a 7 speed DCT. The 1.5L turbo diesel engine from the Venue is also expected to be on offer producing 100PS Power through a 6 speed manual transmission.

    Launch & price:

The all-new i20 is likely to be launched during the festive month of October this year and will go up against the new Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the new facelifted Honda Jazz and Toyota’s Glanza. Prices are expected to be around Rs20000 to Rs50000 higher than the current gen model which it will replace.

While there weren’t any significant players that could knock it off, the tech savvy world is difficult to keep up with. Not too difficult for new cars as they come up with updated tech. So naturally, it is important to keep up with fight competition and Hyundai has done just that. Launched in March this year, the new Creta not only looks different but also comes with updated tech, new features, new engines and much more!

    Exterior:
Starting from the front, the new Creta gets new LED DRL’s, new triple beam headlamps and a typical new- gen huge front grill. The side profile looks beefier

but the 17- inch diamond cut profile wheels gives a sort of a geeky vibe. The LED striped tail lamps at the rear and a twin ‘tip’ exhaust give it a very different look, obviously. We personally think the looks of the Creta 2020 are a bit average. While it has a muscular feel to it, there are elements that make it seem low key and toned down. A combination that is quite difficult to make it a success.

    Interior:
The inside of the new 2020 Creta is more interesting. The top of the line variant gets a mix of while and black while the Turbo GDI variant gets all Black interior with red highlights. A refreshed dashboard, 10.25 inch infotainment touchscreen system, a 7 inch instrument panel, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, air purifier, a TPMS system, a cooled glove box, LED reading lamps, a BOSE audio system, raise- able sun blinds, a new steering wheel takes this car to a whole new level in this segment in terms of the ambience it offers.

2020 Hyundai Creta Price and variants:

The variants of the Creta 2020 are well spread out. Starting from the E variant, EX, S SX, and SX(O) at the top, prices begin from 9.99 Lakhs Ex- showroom and go upto 17.20 Lakhs. While it does seem like a competitive price especially in the mid variants, the top variants go a tad higher. The car comes in many colors though- 10 of them!

    Engine and power:

The 2020 Hyundai Creta comes with three BS6 engine options- a 1.4-litre Kappa Turbo-GDi petrol engine that produces 140PS and 242Nm of torque. In typical Hyundai style, it is mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The second petrol engine option is a 1.5-litre MPi motor that produces 115PS and 144Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission unit or a CVT gearbox. The third option is a 1.5-litre U2 diesel engine that produces 115PS and 250Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter unit.

While Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and MG Hector have been making the competition in this segment pretty melodious. The 2020 Creta with its features and price has been making the right kind of noises.

Engine options for both petrol and Diesel Figo remain the same- a 1.5L Diesel engine with 100 Ps of power, 215NM of torque and the 1.2L Ti-VCT inline three petrol Engine that delivers 96PS of power and 119NM of torque.

Other aspects like ride quality, comfort, NVH levels, communicative steering, soft suspension remain the same.

However due to a hike in the price of the BS6 Figo, Ford has excluded some features from the Titanium variant of the car. Features like infotainment system, rear wiper, rear de-fogger, fog lamps, reversing camera, automatic climate control have been excluded- options which buyers look for

    the most in car.

The alloy wheels too have been changed in terms of design and build. We preferred the earlier design. However, they remain the same in the Top end variant, also called the Ford Figo Blu which comes in a sporty avatar.

The Ford Figo Blu comes in a power packed avatar with features mentioned above. However, Apple Car Play and Android Auto features have been excluded from the infotainment system as the Figo Blu gets the Fly Audio touch screen infotainment system.

There has been a major shuffling of features with the Ford Figo and the exclusion of many is something that could disappoint many buyers as not everyone would opt for the top- end and youthful Blu variant.

Ford however, has updated one thing in all its cars for 2020. The addition of FordPass connected car technology that works on an in- built 4G data connection which free of cost subscription for three years. The app enables new car owners to obtain real time data like tyre pressures, fuel level, odometer reading, car position and it also allows for remote start/stop and lock/unlock of the vehicle via the app. Owners can also locate nearest fuel stations, local point of interests and nearby Ford dealers, while the Guide function provides help to owners by calling a Ford guide or roadside assistance in case of a breakdown.

While the new Figo has lost a few features, the introduction of FordPass does bring Ford back in the game as such technology is getting quite common in new cars.
