Mahindra and Mahindra Launched the new generation Thar SUV. The new Thar is based on an all new platform featuring lots of new features and new petrol engine option with automatic gearbox. With this new gen Thar, Mahindra have made it more road and user friendly. Here are all the details on the new Indian made lifestyle SUV.

Exterior:

    The new Mahindra Thar has grown in every dimension while maintaining the traditional Thar design. With a wider track and longer wheelbase, the Thar now resembles the Jeep Wrangler. The front grille and the bumpers are quite different in design though. The higher

spec LX variants also feature LED DRLs along with 18” alloy wheels. The lower spec AX variants get 16” Steel rims. The new Thar will be available either as a Hard top on the LX variants or with a fixed or convertible soft top on the AX variants. As standard all variants come with a tailgate mounted spare wheel with the LX variant getting a full size alloy wheel.

Interior:

    The interior of the new gen Thar gets revolutionary changes when compared to the previous model. The design, layout and materials are vastly superior with more creature comfort and features.

Variants:

The new gen Thar will be available in two variant series; the Adventure focused AX series and the feature oriented LX series.

    The AX series variant offers the following standard features:

• AC

• Power steering

• Power windows

• Central locking

• 16” Steel wheels

• Reverse sensors

• Steel foot steps

• Mechanical Diff lock 4x4

• Fixed soft top

• 6 seats (side facing rear seats)

However the AX series can also be had with an option pack including the following features:

Safety:

       Safety features on the new Mahindra Thar BS6 include:

• Hill hold assist

• ESP with traction control

• Tyre pressure monitoring system

Powertrains:

       The new Thar will be offered with both Turbo petrol and Turbo diesel engines. The 2.2L MHawk turbo diesel engine produces 130PS Power and 300NM torque through either a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed Torque converter automatic gearbox (only on LX variants). Mahindra's new 2.0L MStallion turbo petrol engine will be debuting on the new Thar, producing Max Power of 150PS and torque of 320NM. The turbo petrol will be available with a 6 speed manual transmission only on the AX variants and with a 6 speed automatic transmission only on the LX variants.

All Thar variants will be available with a standard manual Shift-on the fly 4X4 transfer gear box with diff locks.

        The new Mahindra Thar launched pricing starts 9.8lakh ex-showroom.

The AX series price starts from ?9.8L to ?12.2L and 12.49L to 13.75L for the LX series. With all the additional features and power, we expect this new Thar to give a tough time to the urban oriented compact Crossovers too.

Tata Motors has introduced a new value for money XM+ variant on their Altroz premium hatchback in India. Prices for this new mid-spec variant starts from Rs6.60L (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the petrol version.

Features on the new XM+ Variant includes the following:

• 7” touchscreen system

• Android auto and Apple carplay

• Steering mounted audio controls

• Voice commands

• 16” Steel rims with wheel covers

• Remote flip key

This new XM+ variant sits between the XM and XT variants and is priced Rs30,000 more than the lower XM trim.

This new mid spec variant is supposed to be launched as a  reaction to the launch of the new 3rd Gen Hyundai i20. This XM+ variant directly competes against the Magna variant of the new i20 and still offers more features while also being lower in terms of price comparatively.

The Kia Sonet compact SUV was launched in India on 18th of September with prices revealed for all variants except for the 7DCT turbo petrol and 6AT turbo diesel top-end GTX+ variants. This here is a quick walkthrough on the highlights of this new Compact SUV in town.

Exterior: 

The new Kia Sonet, though being based on the Hyundai Venue, doesn't look anything like it. The Sonet has its own unique design with the Tiger Nose grille at the front with a knurled Chrome finish and aggressive bumper design. The new Sonet features full LED Headlamps with Heartbeat LED DRLs. The Tail

lamps too receive these Heartbeat LED elements. The top trim levels will receive funky looking 16” Crystal cut alloy wheels whereas the entry-level variants receive 15 inch Steel rims. The Sonet is claimed to provide ground clearance of 205mm.

Interior:

The new Kia Sonet interior features a funky design layout with improved quality. The GT line features an all-black cabin while the Tech line variants get a dual-tone theme. Space is exactly similar to the Hyundai Venue while also providing an ample number of features.

The HTX Variant onwards receives an Electric sunroof, Auto headlamps, Auto wipers, Cruise control, Auto climate control and a digital instrument cluster. Leather upholstery is available only on the HTX+ & the GTX+. There's also a 10.4” touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple Car-play & Navigation on the top-spec variants. This touchscreen is available with 7 Bose speakers including subwoofer and Sound mood lighting. Connected car features & telematics control unit is available through Kia’s UVO to connect app featuring Remote Engine Start/Stop. The HTK, HTK+, HTX variants receive an 8” touchscreen system.

Practicality:

The Kia Sonet offers segment-best 392L boot space complementing all the storage options in the cabin. All variants get flat-folding rear seats despite not offering split-folding options.

Safety:

The new Kia Sonet provides Dual airbags with ABS and EBD as standard across all variants. Only the top-spec GTX+ receive Side & curtain airbags, Vehicle stability management, Electronic Stability Control, Hill hold control and Tyre pressure monitoring system.

Powertrains:

The new Kia Sonet carries forward the same BS6 compliant engines from the Hyundai Venue. The entry-level HTE, HTK and HTK+ variants will receive the 1.2l 4 cyl petrol engine producing 83PS power through a 5 speed Manual gearbox while the higher HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and GTX+ variants get the 1L 3 cyl turbo petrol engine producing 120PS power through a 6-speed iMT gearbox. A 7-speed DCT is available only on the HTK+ & GTX+ variants. The 1.5L 4 cyl turbo diesel engine will be available in two states of tunes. The 6-speed manual gearbox equipped variants will get 100PS Max Power whereas the 6-speed torque converter Automatic equipped HTK+ & GTX+ variants will get higher 115PS Max Power.
