Kia Motors India has now launched the GTX+ top-spec petrol & diesel Automatic Variants of their new Sonet compact SUV at Rs.12.89L ex-showroom.

The Kia Sonet compact SUV was launched in India on 18th of September with prices revealed for all variants except for the 7DCT turbo petrol and 6AT turbo diesel top-end GTX+ variants. This here is a quick walkthrough on the highlights of this new Compact SUV in town.

Exterior: 

The new Kia Sonet, though being based on the Hyundai Venue, doesn't look anything like it. The Sonet has its own unique design with the Tiger Nose grille at the front with a knurled Chrome finish and aggressive bumper design. The new Sonet features full LED Headlamps with Heartbeat LED DRLs. The Tail lamps too receive these Heartbeat LED elements. The top trim levels will receive funky looking 16” Crystal cut alloy wheels whereas the entry-level variants receive 15 inch Steel rims. The Sonet is claimed to provide ground clearance of 205mm.

Interior:

The new Kia Sonet interior features a funky design layout with improved quality. The GT line features an all-black cabin while the Tech line variants get a dual-tone theme. Space is exactly similar to the Hyundai Venue while also providing an ample number of features.

The HTX Variant onwards receives an Electric sunroof, Auto headlamps, Auto wipers, Cruise control, Auto climate control and a digital instrument cluster. Leather upholstery is available only on the HTX+ & the GTX+. There's also a 10.4” touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple Car-play & Navigation on the top-spec variants. This touchscreen is available with 7 Bose speakers including subwoofer and Sound mood lighting. Connected car features & telematics control unit is available through Kia’s UVO to connect app featuring Remote Engine Start/Stop. The HTK, HTK+, HTX variants receive an 8” touchscreen system.

Practicality:

The Kia Sonet offers segment-best 392L boot space complementing all the storage options in the cabin. All variants get flat-folding rear seats despite not offering split-folding options.

Safety:

The new Kia Sonet provides Dual airbags with ABS and EBD as standard across all variants. Only the top-spec GTX+ receive Side & curtain airbags, Vehicle stability management, Electronic Stability Control, Hill hold control and Tyre pressure monitoring system.

Powertrains:

The new Kia Sonet carries forward the same BS6 compliant engines from the Hyundai Venue. The entry-level HTE, HTK and HTK+ variants will receive the 1.2l 4 cyl petrol engine producing 83PS power through a 5 speed Manual gearbox while the higher HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and GTX+ variants get the 1L 3 cyl turbo petrol engine producing 120PS power through a 6-speed iMT gearbox. A 7-speed DCT is available only on the HTK+ & GTX+ variants. The 1.5L 4 cyl turbo diesel engine will be available in two states of tunes. The 6-speed manual gearbox equipped variants will get 100PS Max Power whereas the 6-speed torque converter Automatic equipped HTK+ & GTX+ variants will get higher 115PS Max Power.

    Renault has released a teaser of its new compact SUV, currently named the Kiger. This new compact SUV shares the underpinnings and engine options with the upcoming Nissan Magnite compact SUV. Here are some clear details on what to expect:

    Variants:

    Similar to the Renault Triber, the Kiger too is likely to be available in four variants, namely the RXE, RXL, RXT and RXZ. 

    Exterior:

    Going by the Spy images, the Kiger is likely to feature a coupe-like profile with modern design elements. The front fascia will feature a large signature Renault

    grille flanked by multifunction LEDs whereas the actual tri-beam LED headlamps with be located lower on the front bumper, similar to the Renault Kwid and the Tata Harrier.

    The Kiger will receive prominent body cladding and large squarish wheel arches which will be filled by standard 16” wheels. The higher-spec variants are also likely to receive a dual-tone roof option and silver roof rails. At the back, the Kiger will receive unique looking 3D tail lamps which resemble those on a few European models, a clean tailgate and a dual-tone bumper.

    Interior:

    The interior is likely to carry forward a few parts from the Triber including the centrally mounted 8” touchscreen, the centre console switches, buttons and the glovebox console too. The steering wheel is likely to be a brand new unit along with the digital instrument cluster.

    Similar to the Nissan Magnite, the Renault Kiger will be available with two engine options. The first will be the 1.0L Energy series, 3 cyl naturally aspirated engine from the Renault Triber, producing 72PS Power through a 5-speed manual gearbox. The second powertrain will be a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol unit producing around 100PS through either a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox.

    Pricing:

    The new Renault Kiger will be launched with pricing by January 2021 and is also likely to be priced very aggressively with an expected starting price of Rs.5.5L ex-showroom for the entry-level non-turbo variant. The fully loaded top-spec variant is expected to be priced equivalent to the Nissan Magnite. When launched, the Kiger will go against the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Ford Ecosport, Mahindra XUV300 and the Honda WRV as well.

    The Ford EcoSport in Europe will soon be getting a new Active version with the growing popularity and positive customer feedback of the Active trim on models such as the Fiesta and Focus. Ford has confirmed the unveil of the off-road inspired EcoSport on the 6th of November.

    Going by the Active versions of the Fiesta and Focus, this new model will feature an increased ground clearance, additional body cladding as well as some unique styling changes inside and out. These changes will give the compact crossover better rough road capability while also improving the aesthetic appeal.

    Besides announcing the EcoSport Active, Ford of Europe has planned a new “series strategy” that will be introduced later this year. As part of the change, models will be available in three main trim levels including Active, ST-Line and Titanium.     The interior could mostly remain the same except that the infotainment system would have a larger screen, a digital instrument cluster and tech that helps one stay connected with their car. Volkswagen may launch another variant of the Tiguan with a 48V hybrid system to increase fuel efficiency but this could happen at a much later stage. 

     

    To be assembled in Pune, the new Tiguan would be a front-wheeled drive car in order to price it as competitively as possible. Prices could hover between 22 Lakh and 26 Lakh    rupees. With the Tiguan’s high popularity globally, a safe car reputation, attractive pricing and an exciting petrol engine, this SUV could surely attract a lot of attention!
