Hyundai Motor has unveiled their next contender for the premium hatchback segment in India- the 2020 Hyundai i20. The new avatar is entirely different from what it was earlier and thankfully, we can call this an upgrade because the changes are not just cosmetic outside. The changes take place inside the cabin and to the engines as well. The Indian version of the 2020 Hyundai i20 is expected to have most of the features offerer in the European Spec. India launch of the Hyundai i20 2020 is expected to be around August 2020.

The Hyundai i20 has been one

of the most popular hatchbacks in India, giving tough competition to its rivals like Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, Toyota Glanza and Tata Altroz. While it has been a hot selling unit for Hyundai Motor in India, the upgraded version is expected to do even better considering the features on offer and the price.

Yes, the 2020 Hyundai i20 is expected to be priced between Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) in India. Tempting? You must check out the features below then.

The Europe-spec 2020 Hyundai i20 displays a big new grille in the front. Thankfully, the headlamps too have been redesigned and are LED units with LED DRLs. Not only that, the front and rear bumpers have been redesigned. The new model also gets 17- inch alloy wheels.

The rear hasn't been left out by Hyundai either. The new Hyundai i20 2020 gets LED taillights, shark fin antenna and rear spoiler. We are expecting these features to be made available in the India-spec i20 2020 as well but features like 17 inch alloys maybe left out keeping in mind Indian driving conditions.

When it comes to the new Hyundai i20 2020's interior, the Europe-spec car will get a new 10.25-inch digital cluster and centre touchscreen connected to a Bose audio system with eight speakers. Wireless charging and Hyundai's BlueLink connectivity technology will also be included. A test mule was spotted in India whose cabin looked similar to the Europe Spec version with Audi- esque vents and 4 spoke steering wheel featured in the 2020 Hyundai Creta as well.

Coming to the heart of the matter, the 2020 i20 may have a few engine options which of course will be BS 6 compliant:
    1. A 1.0-litre T-GDi with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system
    2. A 1.2-litre MPi unit
    3. 1.5 litre detuned diesel mill from the Kia Seltos

    New Hyundai i20 Colours

The Europe-spec Hyundai i20 2020 gets as many as 10 colour options, with four being new. The fresh ones are Intense Blue, Aurora Gray, Aqua Turquoise and Brass. Among the already available are Polar White, Sleek Silver, Phantom Black, Dragon Red, Tomato Red and Slate Blue. There is an option for a Phantom Black roof also.

Bajaj has re-launched the popular Chetak scooter after many years and in an all new electric avatar. Priced competitively at Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom), Bajaj has introduced the Chetak electric in two variants -- Urbane and Premium. The Premium model costs Rs 15,000 more and it will be sold alongside KTM. Customers are also offered the convenience of booking the Chetak on their official website as well. Deliveries for the Premium variant may begin from the end of April 2020 while the Urbane variant will commence by May 2020. The catch here though is that as of now, the Chetak is

available in Pune and Bengaluru only.

While there are other players in the electric scooter market, the Chetak stands apart in terms of build since it uses metal bodywork instead of fibre. It gets all things modern like LED lighting and a digital instrument console that displays many important things like vehicle speed, range and battery level and an IP67 rating. Also, the Chetak gets keyless ignition!

Speaking of performance, the Chetak is powered by a 4kW 16 Nm electric motor with 2 riding modes: Eco and Sport. It is a smart system as the Chetak’s Integrated charging unit senses throttle position continuously. As a result, twisting the throttle more than 85% will result in the mode switching automatically from Eco to Sport. Bajaj claims the Chetak will offer a real-world range of 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode. You might be surprised to know that the Chetak also gets a reverse mode. It is also claimed that the electric scooter can do 25 kms after one hour of charge while a 3.5 hour charge will charge the batteries all the way to 80%. 100% charge from no charge could be achieved in 5 hours.

But, Bajaj claims the top speed of the Chetak to be limited to 60 kmph which in our books is low. Top speed has been compromised in the interest of higher range and it could be the perfect speed for tight city commutes. But, what if you happen to hit the highway or a fast main road? Things could get a bit scary.

Speaking of handling and braking- the Chetak gets front trailing link suspension and 12-inch alloy wheels fitted with MRF Zapper tyres. A disc brake in the front and drum brake at the rear should provide a lot of stopping power. Bajaj claims the regenerative braking feature can add 2.8 metre of range every time a rider goes from 60-0kmph.

There is no provision for fast charging but Bajaj does include home charging port for free which will be fixed at your place of residence by a technician. It would be interesting to see how the Chetak performs against its competition- the Ather 450, TVS iQube and 22Kymco iFlow.

The new Tiguan would be a Facelift version of the earlier model and will be manufactured locally to avoid import duties, so as to make it more affordable. A facelift would mean that the front and rear profiles of the car would receive cosmetic updates. The most significant difference compared to the old version of the Tiguan would be the engine.

The new 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan is all set to receive the 1.5 Litre TSI Turbo- Petrol engine that produces an impressive 150 BHP of power. Also adding to the fun would be the 7 speed Dual Clutch automatic gearbox with

paddle shifters. Additions to the existing safety package could be a hill descent control feature and also an electronic parking brake.

The interior could mostly remain the same except that the infotainment system would have a larger screen, a digital instrument cluster and tech that helps one stay connected with their car. Volkswagen may launch another variant of the Tiguan with a 48V hybrid system to increase fuel efficiency but this could happen at a much later stage.

To be assembled in Pune, the new Tiguan would be a front-wheeled drive car in order to price it as competitively as possible. Prices could hover between 22 Lakh and 26 Lakh    rupees. With the Tiguan’s high popularity globally, a safe car reputation, attractive pricing and an exciting petrol engine, this SUV could surely attract a lot of attention!
