All-new Honda City Hatchback

Honda has launched the new City hatchback which will go on sale in Thailand first. It is essentially a shorter, hatchback version of the existing 5th Gen Honda City Sedan which was recently launched in India.

Design:

Honda City Hatchback Exterior

The new Honda City hatchback looks almost same as the Sedan, till the C-pillar. However, instead of an elongated trunk, the car gets a hatch beyond that. The rear too resembles the Sedan when it comes to the wide, horizontally placed tail-lights and the number plate housing. However, the hatchback gets a shorter overhang and a more rounded appearance. The rear bumper too is sporty with vertically placed faux air vents and a contrast black rear faux diffuser.

The new Honda City hatchback RS Turbo gets more sporty bits like a blacked-out grille and dark-chrome finish for the 16-inch alloy wheels, similar to the City Sedan RS Turbo version sold in Thailand.

The new Honda City hatchback is 4,349mm long, 1,748mm wide and 1,488mm tall and has a 2,589mm long wheelbase. It is 200mm shorter than the Thailand-spec City sedan but is 314mm longer, 53mm wider and has a 59mm longer wheelbase than the Honda Jazz.

Interior:

On the inside too, the City hatchback is exactly the same as the sedan without any significant changes. However unlike the Sedan, the hatchback gets Honda’s innovative rear seats that can split 60:40, fold down to increase boot space, fold up to increase vertical space and sit flush with the front seats to create a bed.

Powertrain:

The City hatchback will be currently available with only a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine that produces 122hp through a CVT gearbox. More powertrain options will be offered based on the different markets.

 Launch markets:

The new City hatchback will be introduced in many markets like South America and in countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia where it will also replace the third-gen Jazz. However, the fourth-gen Jazz has already been launched in markets like Japan, Europe and even North America where the City hatchback is not expected to be launched.

In India however, Honda has just introduced a facelift version of the 3rd Gen Jazz with more features. This Jazz facelift will not be replaced by any new model anytime soon.

Stay tuned for further updates.

Skoda is getting ready for an aggressive 2021. Apart from the new-generation Octavia and Kodiaq petrol next year, Skoda will debut it’s all new ‘India 2.0’ products, starting with an all-new SUV and sedan.

All new mid size SUV (Vision IN):

    Skoda Vision India SUV

The most eagerly awaited product is the upcoming Creta fighter that will be a mid-size SUV developed and manufactured entirely for India.

This new mid size SUV was first previewed by the Vision IN concept at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. The production-spec version will retain most of the design elements from the

concept. This new SUV will be over 4.2m-long and have a 2,671mm wheelbase. It will be based on the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform.

This new Mid size SUV will be available with two engine options. Lower variants are expected to get the 110hp, 1.0-litre TSI engine with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Higher variants will be getting the 150hp, 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol motor from the Karoq and will be mated to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

    Fourth Gen Skoda Octavia:

    Skoda Octavia

The launch of the all new fourth-gen Octavia has been pushed to the April-June 2021 period.

The new Octavia has already been spied testing in India and the India spec model ditches the quad-headlamp setup. The new car adopts the brand’s latest design language and looks similar to the facelifted Superb. The interior gets a new dashboard design, a freestanding 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit digital dials among other features.

The new Octavia will get a 190hp, 2.0 TSI turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic. However, the lower variants are likely to get the 150hp, 1.5 TSI Petrol engine from the Karoq.

    Skoda Kodiaq petrol BS6:

    Skoda Kodiaq

The Kodiaq’s 150hp, 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine will be replaced by the 190hp, 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine that is already offered on the Volkswagen Tiguan All-space and Skoda Superb. No exterior or interior changes are expected to the updated model.

    All new Generation Skoda Rapid:

    Skoda Rapid

The final product for the 2021 year will be the new mid-size sedan that will replace the decade-old Rapid Sedan in India.

Like the production-spec Vision IN SUV, the upcoming sedan will be based on the MQB A0 IN platform that will bring in key improvements in terms of space and technology. The new Sedan will be larger than the current Rapid and will introduce a lot of features to keep up with competition from the New Honda City. The new Rapid is expected to be priced smartly as well. The engine however, will be the same 110hp, 1.0 TSI turbo-petrol motor mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Stay tuned for further updates on the all new Skoda cars.

While the Jazz has been popular for being a spacious hatchback, some new updates ensure it stays updated with technology. Of course, a petrol and diesel BS6 engine is also something it receives but it just doesn’t stop there.

From what is expected, the new 2020 Jazz receives updates on the exterior. A fresh look at the front and rear is something which is most likely while the overall profile remains similar. The version displayed at the 2020 Auto Expo displays updates like LED DRL’s, Projector headlamps, new dual tone alloy wheels, LED tail lamps.

also displays many changes to the interior. A new Dashboard, a two spoke steering wheel, new touch screen infotainment system, white highlights and an all new centre console, magic rear seats, cruise control, auto headlamps and auto wipers. We aren’t sure if all the updates would land in India but we do expect the Indian version of the 2020 Jazz to come with some updates, if not all.

The debuted version also comes with many safety features such as an electric parking brake, ABS, EBD, SENSING technology which is Honda’s collision mitigation braking using a wide angle camera in the front and eight sonar sensors.

Engine options for the India bound Honda Jazz 2020 could remain the same- the 1.2 Litre i-VTEC that produces 90 PS of power, 110 NM of torque and the 1.5 Litre i-DTEC engine that produces 100 PS, 200 NN of torque would most probably be upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms. The petrol option currently comes with a 5 speed manual and CVT transmission while the diesel option comes mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox only. However, the new Jazz Diesel could receive CVT transmission from the Diesel Honda Amaze.

When launched officially in India, the 2020 Honda Jazz will compete with Toyota Glanza, Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz. While it would feel more premium than the outgoing model, prices are expected to stay between Rs. 5.50 Lakhs and Rs. 9.50 Lakhs (ex- showroom).
